Senior Project Director

Ulysses Slaughter

Ulysses "Butch" Slaughter, PHC's Senior Project Director, is a native of Chicago and long-time contributor to the arts and culture communities of Chester, Pennsylvania.

A graduate of Lincoln University and  veteran of The United States Navy, Ulysses published Chester's Perspective Magazine from February 2001 to February 2004. In September 2005, he wrote, directed and produced "A Chester Story," a full-length documentary focused on the history of Chester's African American communities. A seasoned journalist, Ulysses has contributed editorials and features to area publications including The Delaware County Daily Times, The Philadelphia Observer and The Philadelphia Tribune.

In addition to his communications contributions to Chester City, Ulysses has served various educational and social service organizations.  He's had the pleasure of serving thousands of Chester students and families through his work at The Village Charter School, Chester YouthBuild and Chester High School. From workforce development seminars to community development and personal development seminars, Ulysses has demonstrated his passion for "people power" at every possible opportunity. 

As a business consultant for The Chester Housing Authority (CHA), Ulysses helped create" ANUME" (A New Me), the housing agency's resident-run health initiative.  Under his management, CHA fortified its resident engagement efforts by establishing daily exercise programs, food distribution projects and monthly parent gathering. Ulysses was a chief architect in the development of the agency's Fathers Are Talking and Women's Circle concepts.

A nationally recognized reconciliation expert, Ulysses has appeared on both The Oprah Winfrey Network and The Dr. Phil Show. He's been featured on local ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN affiliates.  He travels globally to contribute to the ever-important human challenge of forgiving. He is author of three books and producer behind the film series "Odyssey To Save Ulysses."
